Joey packed his bags and hit the sky
and when he did a tear came to my eye

I hope he understands
the dogs of war don’t give a damn
and most of all I hope Joey doesn’t die

Joey is the guy that lives next door
Joey could be the girl that lives on the second floor

We may not know their name
but we want them back here just the same
let’s pray to God we seem them all once more

the distant sound of a war we have to win

Most of us forgot Vietnam
we don’t feel the pain
of the ones that never can

But let’s make real damn sure
