G.I. Joey

G.I. Joey by Dudley G. Hale

Joey packed his bags and hit the sky
and when he did a tear came to my eye

I hope he understands
the dogs of war don’t give a damn
and most of all I hope Joey doesn’t die

Joey is the guy that lives next door
Joey could be the girl that lives on the second floor

We may not know their name
but we want them back here just the same
let’s pray to God we seem them all once more

G.I. Joey’s on the move again
the distant sound of a war we have to win

don’t die on foreign sand
we count on you to protect our land
your mother wants you home and so do I

Most of us forgot Vietnam
we don’t feel the pain
of the ones that never can

But let’s make real damn sure
that we don’t do it all again
let’s play this game for real
let’s play to win

G.I. Joey’s on the move again
the familiar sound of a war we have to win

don’t die on foreign sand
we count on you to protect our land
your mother wants you home and so do I

Americans fight for peace from sea to shining sea,
from our founding fathers to you and me.

When the bugle sounds it’s call
we stand together one and all
and wave the colors of freedom for us all.

In battle we are one and stand behind the red, white and blue.
This our salute Joey, from all of us to you.

We count on you to make it back and hold your child once more.
We pray the day we can say the world is at peace, not war.

G.I. Joey’s on the move again
the familiar sound of a war we have to win

don’t die on foreign sand
we count on you to protect our land
your mother wants you home and so do I

your family wants you home and so do I
your country wants you home and so do I
